The Bowflex TreadClimber is a combination exercise machine that works as a treadmill and a stair climber.  However, owning the machine does not guarantee that you are getting the most out of it.  There are some tips that you should consider based on your level of fitness and the amount of training that you have already done.

Beginners Training Regime

If you are new to using the Bowflex TreadClimber then you should start with an introductory training regime.  This regime will start with you using the treadmill section of the machine at a 2 mph speed for 30 minutes.  You should complete this 3 times a week for a single week to start with.

The second week of the regime will see you using the treadclimber section of the machine.  You should use this setting for 30 minutes 3 times in the week.  In week 3, you should continue to exercise at a steady pace for 2 days and work for 30 minutes each day.  The third day of training in this week should be used for an interval workout which needs to last for 30 minutes.

The final week of this regime will see you completing 30-minute interval workouts 2 times in the week.  There should also be a single day of steady pace for 30 minutes. This should be kept up until you feel that you can progress to the intermediate training regime.

Intermediate Training Regime

The training recommendations for intermediate regimes will vary greatly when compared to the beginners.  In the intermediate training regime, people are encouraged to complete 30 minutes of treadclimber training 3 times a week during the first week of the regime.  This is why it is important that you are comfortable with the beginner regime before you move on.

In the second week of this regime, you will need to include 2 days of steady pace for 30 minutes.  You will also need to have a day of interval training which lasts 30 minutes.  You should then continue to rotate the weeks until you feel comfortable with the regime and want to advance to the next training level.

The Advanced Training Regime

In the first week of the advanced regime, you should look at completing 30 minutes of interval training twice a week.  You should also have a single day for 30 minutes of steady pace exercise.  You can then increase this to include interval training and treadclimber training as you see fit.

Set Long-Term Goals

Before you start training on the Bowflex TreadClimber you need to set yourself long-term goals.  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that adults should look at completing at least 150 minutes of exercise per week.  Of course, you may not be able to start with 150 minutes because of your fitness level and in these cases, you should look at slowly increasing the amounts that you do.  However, you should set a goal that aims for you to be completing this amount of exercise or more each week.
