In-car connectivity is becoming one of the most sought after features in vehicles. People want to have Internet access in their cars, and connect their smartphones and laptops with their cars. There are even some advances in technology that could allow us to link our cars with our homes, as well as to other cars.
Now, you can do all sorts of things while riding in a car, such as making restaurant reservations, getting travel-related information, information about traffic and gas prices, and so on. All you need is a smartphone and a mobile app for the specific service you need. There are lots of cars that provide this type of connectivity, and the Nissan Friend-ME, although still only a concept, is definitely one of the best cars made so far, when it comes to in-car connectivity.
The Nissan Friend-ME concept was unveiled at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, and it immediately caught people''s eyes, primarily thanks to the stylish and futuristic design. But, apart from the exterior, it has a couple of other cool features that make it appealing, such as the in-car connectivity that it provides.
When it comes to the exterior, the first thing that stands out when you take a look at it is the V-shaped grille. The sharp-edged headlights, that look like boomerangs, make the car look aggressive, and the curved lines along the hood and the door panels make it look pretty sexy. There are no side-view mirrors, and you won''t be needing them, as there are cameras that can help you see what''s going on behind you.
Inside the Nissan Friend-Me concept, you get to enjoy a pretty sophisticated, modern cabin, with various high-tech devices, which will make you feel like you are sitting in one of those cars you only see in sci-fi movies. There are bucket front and rear seats, and there is room for 4 people in it. On the center console, there are touch screens that inform you about fuel consumption and navigation, as well as speed, and all passengers can easily access that information. There is one large display in the center console, and a couple more screens located between the two back seats. These features are very cool and fun, but they can be a major distraction for drivers. It is even more concerning because this car is mainly going to be used by the younger population, which is especially prone to distracted driving. However, this “Four Seats, One Mind Connectivity” feature, as Nissan calls it, is quite interesting and we can expect to see similar solutions in other cars in the future.
As far as performances are concerned, the Friend-ME is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, that according to the manufacturer is very efficient and eco-friendly. It''s still not known when and if there is going to be a production model of this concept car, considering how futuristic it looks, both on the inside and outside, but for now, it gives us a pretty good idea of how future cars will look like.
