It seems so many Americans today are seeking pain relief for an injury or chronic ailment. The obesity epidemic has exacerbated this.  Excess weight puts a huge stress on not only internal organs, but the entire skeleton. Prescriptions for pain relief have soured and even created a drug abuse epidemic on their own.  Many Americans are grasping for answers to pain management. Traditional solutions of medications and physical therapy are often insufficient.

One tried and true pain management technique that has been used successfully in the East for centuries is acupuncture.  While the idea of needles may alone induce stress in many, the needles used in acupuncture are unlike the needles used in shots.  A mere fraction of the size, they are design to stimulate nerve endings in a miniscule way.  The body is a massive highway of nerves, starting and stopping throughout the body.  Each nerve sends signals, unfortunately sometimes pain signals, to the brain.  There is no downside to acupuncture. It’s quite relaxing and more often than not will reduce pain.

Other options for pain management include exercise programs.  Research through reviews and personal recommendations a qualified personal fitness trainer.  Prepare to have an initial consultation where your pain issues can be identified and the personal trainer can begin to design a custom program to lengthen, loosen and strengthen the muscles associated with the areas of pain.  This is a long and slow process, but in the end, one of the most effective ways to conquer pain and build a healthy and fit lifestyle at the same time.

Weight reduction alone can serve to lesson pain in joints such as the knees, hips, should arms and most importantly the muscles in the back.  Consult with both your family doctor who will most likely recommend a nutritionist.  More than 80% of weight loss can be attributed to diet, while 20% can be attributed to physical activity.

Consider each of these options when looking for solutions to manage pain for both chronic pain and pain resulting from injury.  No solution is immediate, but with diligence, over the long term will result in a higher quality of life. Good luck to you.
