All files in UNIX including Linux and UNIX variations have access permission. In that way, the system enables to know how to handle requests to a file or a folder. Here are three types of the access permission such as Read that is noticed with letter r that means that the file is able to read by the user, Write that is noticed with w letter that means that the file is able to read or edited by the user and the last one, Execute that is noticed with x letter that means that the file is able to execute as a program by the users.
There are three access that are intended for the three type of users such as The User for the file owner, the Group for the other file in the same folder or group, and the World for everybody.
The web server must be able to reach your web page in order to be able to display on the browser. This permission need to be managed in order to the website enable to work properly.
All HTML files and images need to be displayed for everybody. The value to manage this setting is 644 that means it enable to be read by the user, group, and world and also enable to be edited by users. This setting is automatically set when you upload files.
All folder need to be displayed in order to be executed by other people. This is 755 and so is the file CGI setting. However, the CGI file setup could not be automatically run when you are uploading a file. You need to set it manually.
It is important to manage the permission file properly. Here are several steps enable to be performed to change permission on a file or folder.
Firstly, login to the page of your cPanel account and find a tab menu “files. Click on the “file manager” and choose what directory you aim. Then, choose the file or folder you want to change the permission. Once you have clicked the file or folder, click the menu “change permission” on the top of the page.
Then, determine the setting you want by giving such a tick to the menus. The number of the permission will follow your setting. Lastly, click the button “change permission” and the permission setting will be saved.
